Award winning local thespians in Hazeltons

Hazelton residents recently had the opportunity to see two Hazelton Secondary school productions, the Art of Rejection and Camel Dung and Cloves.

The two shows were then taken to the Annual Drama Festival in Prince Rupert and teacher Barb Janze said the cast and crew did an incredible job and had a lot of fun in the process.

“The students really enjoyed themselves and many are already planning for next year,” she said. “They enjoyed seeing all the other schools plays, the improv games and the dance at the end. The students were also great ambassadors for our community.”

John Nelson from the Art of Rejection, won the Theatre Spirit award in recognition for his enthusiasm, commitment and leadership on stage and in adjudication.

Camel Dung and Cloves also brought home two awards; one for Best Make Up and another for Best Ensemble.

“I want to thank everyone who attended both our home performances,” she said. “And a big thank you to all our financial sponsors.”

Janze added that she is very pleased with not only her students but also the community for their support.
