Eagles searching for talent in Smithers

Minor hockey players that think they have what it takes to move on in the hockey world should mark down April 8 to 10 in their calendars, when the Sicamous Eagles junior hockey team will be holding a spring hockey camp at the Smithers Civic Centre Arena.

The team’s general manager Wayne March said it’s been two years since the team held a camp in the area, and the team’s management are looking forward to checking out the talent in Smithers minor hockey.

“We’ve been very successful in locating players from this area,” said March, pointing out that Sicamous players drawn from the Smithers area include Derek Huiseman, Darryl DeVries, Mark Arnold, Corbin Marcotte, Jean Luc Fornier, Jacob Santurbano, and Brad Crump. Huiseman and DeVries played for the Quesnel Millionaires last season, and he expects other players to move up this year as well.

“As a club that develops players for a career in hockey, that’s our goal, to move players up,” he said.

March and coach Blair Robinson will be looking for skilled players aged 17 to 20 who are hard working and committed to learning more about the game. Players can register up to registration day. Check in time is noon on April 8 at the arena. For more information, call March at 250-517-9243 or visit www.sicamouseagles.com.
