Love for all is pro-life flag motivation

Charis Olij says pro-life flags planted in Smithers come from a place of love.

Last weekend I participated in setting up 10,000 pink and blue flags across town. Each flag represented 10 babies who have lost their lives to an abortion. This makes for a total of 100,000 abortions performed every year in Canada.

Canada is the only country in the world where a woman can have an abortion until her baby is completely outside of her body. My son was very obviously alive in the hours and hours before he was born, never mind the months preceding that. Why was he not worthy of any protection by the law one moment, only to have “human rights” the next?

I am sincerely sorry to those who felt hurt or judged by the flag display or other pro-life messages. My heart breaks for you. But please know that our motivation is love and care for all — both preborn and born. Just like when a doctor needs to be honest about our health, we need to be honest when human rights are being violated. This is a ‘choice’ no one should have to suffer through. No one should have to carry the weight or burden of playing God and weighing and deciding when the life of their child should end, but God himself.

I know there are women who have made this difficult choice and women who are trying to make this decision right now. There is hope and a chance for peace whether you’ve had an abortion or are facing an unwanted pregnancy or a pregnancy you aren’t prepared for. Please check out the Crisis Pregnancy Care Center on Main Street and get the help that is available.
