Wilhelmina Willibrorda (Willy) Koldyk
November 7th, 1939 – February 9th, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mom and oma. Willy Koldyk passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver on Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 after three days of unexpected, difficult heart complications. A funeral mass was held on Saturday, February 20th, 2016 at St Joseph’s Church, Smithers, BC. Refreshments were provided by the ladies of the Catholic Women’s League. The family would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming love and support during this very difficult time.
Willy was born in Venhuizen, North Holland, Netherlands. She was the 11th of 13 children to Josef Sjerps and Anna Boots-Sjerps.
In May 1960, she traveled to Canada to visit her sister Afra in Smithers. There she met Otto Koldyk Sr. and they were married April 26, 1962 in St. Joseph’s Church, Smithers.
Willy was a wonderful wife to Otto Sr. for 53 years and an incredible mother to Nancy (1963), Jacqueline (1965) and Otto Jr. (1968). When the grand-children came along Nathan (1991), Travis (1995), Taylor (1995) and Jorgen (2000) Willy was in her glory. They were her pride and joy and each of them knows her love and care has helped them become the wonderful young men they are.
Willy was a devout Catholic and extremely active in the church and the Catholic Women’s League. She touched so many lives through the love, kindness and patience she always had. Willy enjoyed biking, walking, golfing, snowshoeing, baking, reading and even quilting for a number of years. We were so blessed to have Willy as our wife, mom and oma. We thank her for everything she did so lovingly for us. From the angel she was on earth, she is now our angel above. She will continue to watch over us.
