Wilf Higginson

November 29, 2006

Wilfrid Higginson

Wilfrid Higginson passed away peacefully in the Lord in the early morning hours of Nov. 29, 2006, at the BVD Hospital.

Wilf was born in Lancashire, England, on Dec. 17, 1919. He was eldest of five children. Wilf grew up on a farm and enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables for market at an early age. This remained a passion throughout his life.

In 1948 he married his wife Nora from Holland, who was working at a local dairy farm. They immigrated in 1952 with their first two sons and settled in Smithers where seven more children were born. They were active members in St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish community since they arrived in the valley.

Wilf and Nora started Floridale Farms and Greenhouses in 1955 from which began Floridale Flower Shop in town. Wilf pursued different ventures throughout the years, including Hi-Line Farm Equipment, from which he retired to again return to his beloved gardens. He was still selling flowers and tomatoes at the Farmers’ Market this past summer.

Wilfrid is survived by his wife Nora, children John (Lynn), Simon (Ramona), Anne (Henry Adema), Teresa (Mike Davis), Mary (John deWit), Joe (Gayle), Gordon (Cathy), 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and his three sisters in England and their families. Wilf was predeceased by his brother Joseph, his eldest daughter Cathy, and youngest daughter Margaret, his daughter-in-law Susanne, and his grandson Russell.

Goodbye, Dad... Grandpa... Friend...

Until we meet again...
