Ragnar (Ron) Martinsen

Ron Martinsen passed away July 6, 2006 at St. Paul’s Medical Center in Vancouver. Ron had successfully undergone a heart-valve replacement surgery, but suffered complications in the days following.

Ron was born in Oslo, Norway on January 3, 1941. He immigrated to Canada with his parents and three sisters in 1952. He entered the work world at a young age and held various jobs including: working at a bike repair shop, an auto body shop, operating equipment, working in sawmills, and piling lumber.

After working as a machinist, Ron and a long time friend, Gene Valcourt started Valmart Overhead doors in Langley, B.C. Ron semi-retired from Valmart and moved to Smithers in 1995 to help his son run yet another family door business, JR Overhead doors. Semi-retirement soon progressed to full-time work as Ron took over JR Overhead doors and became well known and respected throughout the North as a fair and honest businessmen.

He married Dora May Horner of La Porte, Indiana on July 2, 1960, and together they raised two sons, Ron and Joseph, and a daughter, Christina.

God and family were the most important things in life to Ron. Much of his time was devoted to being with his family and sharing with others about his relationship with Jesus. Ron leaves behind a rich legacy of people who were changed because of his involvement in their lives.

A funeral service was held on July 14, 2006 at Mountain View Assembly in Smithers. Interment was at the Smithers Cemetery immediately following.
