Minke Vandergaag

October 19, 1922-March 1, 2016

“Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel,  and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Psalm 73:23-26

Our heavenly Father, in his wisdom and at his appointed time, called home to himself his covenant child, our dear wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Minke Vandergaag, at age 93. She died peacefully at the Bulkley Lodge with her husband and family at her side singing of God’s faithfulness.

Minke was born in Alphen a/d Rijn, the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1949. She met and married Arend Vandergaag in 1952. They were married for 63 years and blessed with four sons, Gerald (Hettie), Aubrey (Jane), Peter (Tina) and Willy (Greta), 24 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.

She was a caring, godly, and fun-loving woman and though in the last few years she was mentally frail, we will miss her. We are comforted by the promises of the gospel. God gives “strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.” In Christ alone our hope is found.

Her body was laid to rest on Monday, March 7, followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Bulkley Lodge, PO Box 3640, Smithers, BC V0J 2N0. We are so very grateful for the staff’s tender loving care of Minke over the past 2 1/2 years.
