In loving memory ~

In loving memory of Joseph Barry Meyers, who passed away unexpectedly on the evening of November 2nd, 2023 in Smithers, BC.

Joseph's favourite number was five. He was also the fifth child, born on the fifth month, of the fifth day to his loving parents Doreen and Barry Meyers. Joseph was born in Port Alberni, BC, and attended Parkland Secondary School. He later went on to work in the IT field. In 2001, Joseph accepted a position with the Smithers Bulkley Valley Credit Union. This is when he moved to Smithers, BC with his first wife Yvette Lord, and two children Holly and Cole Meyers. Joseph called Smithers his home and devotedly worked for the Credit Union for the last twenty-two years. In 2010 Joseph married Maureen Alice Meyers.

Joseph was extremely passionate about the things he enjoyed. Throughout his life, he always found peace and solace in his favourite music. He shared this bond with many of his friends and family, being able to attend numerous concerts throughout his life. He was an avid lover of nature. He spent his early twenties scuba diving, and years surrounded by natural wildlife near one of his homes by Lake Kathlyn. He had a natural green thumb, and took great pride in his impressive vegetable gardens. He loved reading fiction novels, playing video games and most things considered "geeky". He also had amazing baking/cooking skills, and could make the most delicious cheesecake, lemon meringue pie or peanut brittle anyone has ever tasted.

To know Joseph was to love him. His personality was full of life, laughter and the perfect amount of sarcastic wit. He always had a cheeky comment or comeback for any conversation. He was admired and respected by everyone who truly knew him. Joseph had a heart of gold, and always gave more than he could have ever received. Those who were close to Joseph would undoubtedly say there really is no other person quite like him.

Joseph is survived and forever loved by his two parents Barry and Doreen Meyers, and his four older siblings Jodi, Janie "The Dingo stole My Baby!", John and Laura Meyers. He is also survived and eternally cherished by his two children Holly and Cole Meyers. Joseph is also survived and forever treasured by his spouse Maureen Alice Meyers, along with their two cats Hayz & Deja.

It is with saddened, heavy hearts that his family and loved ones write this obituary. Joseph's family would like to say thank you to the Bulkely Valley Credit Union for being a huge part of Joseph's life, and a special thank you to Joseph's " Smithers sister " Becky Lychak. There will be a celebration of life held for Joseph in Victoria BC, on March 9th, 2024 from 1-4 pm at the Esquimalt Gorge Park Pavillion.
