Ila Marie Berg
1931 - 2015
Ila was born in Winnipeg Manitoba and was raised on her parent’s farm near Winnipegosis with her brother Perry and sister Doreen. Her parents moved the family to Smithers in the mid 40’s. Ila worked at Haggie’s Cafe on Main Street in Smithers, and that is where she met the love of her life, Lloyd Berg. They were married in 1951 and raised three children, Russell, Bonnie and Stewart.
Ila worked at the Royal Bank until she and Lloyd bought the Babine Lodge at Topley Landing in 1965. They moved to the lodge in the winter of 1966. Ila and Lloyd lived at Topley Landing for 25 years and then moved to Winfield in the Okanagan. In 2010 they moved to Topley and a year later Ila was admitted into the Bulkley Lodge for full time care.
Ila loved family gatherings and visiting with friends, she also loved gardening, especially growing flowers.
She will be sadly missed by her sons Russell Berg, Stewart (Gloria) Berg; grandsons Lloyd (Annette) Green, Daniel Berg; granddaughters Anita Armstrong, Sarah Hutchins, Nicole Berg; great grandchildren Keith Green, Trevon Green, Cassidy Hutchins, Joshua Hutchins and Alex Hutchins.
A Funeral Service for Ila was held in the R.A. Schrader Funeral Home on January 2nd. She was laid to rest beside Lloyd in the Smithers Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.raschraderfuneralhome.com.
