Gisela Gilbert (née Schultz)

1925-2008

Gisela Gilbert died on Sunday morning, March 16, at the age of 82. She was born in Jabel, Germany in 1925, married Richard (Dick) Gilbert (1917-1995) in 1955 and came to Smithers the same year. They operated a number of small sawmill camps where she did the cooking and built their home in the Driftwood Area below the old Gilbert farm. Their sons Frank and Axel grew up and went to school there.

She was always known for her good cheer and generous hospitality. Friends and family were always welcome to drop in and all special occasions were duly celebrated.

She is survived and will be sadly missed by her sons Frank and Axel, her sisters Rosemarie Kossman, Christine (and Janos) Toth and her brother Dietrich Schultz, her in-laws Ronnie and Florence Gilbert and her nephews and nieces.

The family wants to express their thanks to the staff at BV District Hospital and Dr. Scholtz for their unfailing and generous care and kindness. Cremation will be conducted by Schrader’s Funeral Home.

Gisela was always happiest sharing good times with family and friends. To celebrate her love of life we had a joyful gathering on Friday, March 21 at The Old Church.

No flowers please, but donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
