George Goymer

Goymer — George passed away suddenly on Aug. 3, 2006 in St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. at the age of 76 years.

George was born on May 6, 1930 in London, England to George and Louisa where he resided until joining the Royal Navy at 15 years of age. After an accident he was schooled in the fine art of barbering which he pursued until his retirement, in 1998.

He came to Canada in 1966 with his wife Sheila, to Ontario where he worked until moving to Smithers in 1967, opening the Centennial Barber Shop. Settling into the community, their daughter Chandi was born soon followed by Glenn. Very active with the Kinsmen, building a cabin on the mountain, George was a very community minded person. After K-40 George joined the Masonic Lodge further serving the community he loved. He also enjoyed gardening, making wine, cooking, smoking fish and most of all being a wonderful grandfather.

George is survived by his daughter Chandi (Sean) of Smithers, B.C. his son Glenn (Anita) of MacKenzie, B.C. and three grandchildren, Ryan, Jason and Rhianna. He is also survived by his sister Janey of Washington, D.C. and many, many friends.

A service of remembrance was held on Friday, Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. in the Friendship Centre with long time friend Keith Robinson officiating. Cremation was held in Vancouver.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes to the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, Cardiac Care Unit, would be greatly appreciated by the family. The address for donations is 178-1081 Burrard St., Vancouver, B.C., V6Z 1Y6.
