FLORENCE ELIZABETH “BETTY” HUNTER

August 21, 2006

Passed away peacefully at home August 21, 2006, at the age of 83 years.

Betty was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Punchezakut Lake just out of Quesnel, B.C., to Walter and Astrid Grevatt, who also had two other children: sister Mickey and brother Burke.

After being home schooled by their mother until their teens, Betty and Mickey joined the army. Betty served her country in Prince Rupert, achieving the rank of Sergeant while performing her duties in the hospital.

Following the war, Betty met and married Fraser Glen Hunter in 1946 in Quesnel, at the family homesite.

Betty and Glen moved to Vancouver where daughter Lauren and son Ron were born. After moving to Quesnel, Betty and Glen had another daughter, Susan.

In 1961 the family moved to Smithers and Betty worked in various cafes around Smithers, while raising their children.

Betty loved to bowl, dart, garden, camp and fish, and in later years very much enjoyed her grand- great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her daughters Lauren (Roger) Maillot of Smithers, and Susan Hunter of Bellingham, Washington.

Predeceased by husband Glen, son Ron, granddaughter Deanna, she is also survived by six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A service of remembrance will be held Wed. Aug. 30 in the Smithers Legion at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor George Richmond officiating. If friends so desire, floral tributes would be appreciated by the family or donations to the Salvation Army.

“Always in our hearts.”

Cremation and memorial services were entrusted to the R.A. Schrader Funeral Home, Smithers, B.C., 847-2441.
