David Edward Roumieu

Mar. 11, 1921 - Sept. 30, 2006

Dave was born in South Fort George, B.C. When he was a youngster, the family moved to Burns Lake. He began working at the Royal Bank at 16 years of age and later transferred to the lower mainland to further his banking career.

In 1942 Dave enlisted in the RCAF/RAF and went overseas as a Radar Technician. At the war’s end, he chose to work in the Royal Bank in Smithers, as this area had always been his first choice. He married Laurel (Mahood) in 1947. The Royal Bank moved him to Langley shortly thereafter.

Relocating back to Smithers in 1950, the partnership of Spicer & Roumieu was formed. CGA, real estate and general/life insurance licences soon followed. Pioneer Agencies Ltd. was founded in 1965 and Dave continued to work in this family insurance business until 75 years old. He then sold life insurance from his home, and retained his licence until age 85.

He was active on the executives of many community organizations, devoting hours of volunteer time throughout his working life. Upon retirement, Dave took great satisfaction in contributing to two books published on WWII radar. He particularly enjoyed visiting with old acquaintances. He followed his nine grandchildren’s activities with great interest and enjoyed their successes. To his great joy, he was recently blessed with a great-granddaughter.

Dave is survived by wife Laurel Roumieu, sisters Gladys Swick and Yvonne Goodall, children Mark Roumieu (Jenny) and Laurel Pearce (Blake), and daughter-inlaw Jean Roumieu (Paul+); grandchildren Joshua, Alecia, Jean-Luc, Kate, Jordan and Graham Roumieu; Adam, Emily and Marie Pearce.; great-granddaughter Stella Roumieu.
