In Loving Memory ~

In loving memory of Clarence (Slim) Merrill Goodacre, born June 5, 1929 in Smithers BC to Clarence and Winnie Goodacre.

Slim grew up in Smithers along with his brother and 2 sisters. He graduated from Smithers High School in 1947, afterwards going to Prince George BC to complete Grade 13. From there he decided to take after his father and brother and returned to Smithers to join them in the grocery business.

As a patient at Bulkey Valley District Hospital Slim met his future wife, Mary Ryan a registered nurse from Newfoundland. They married in 1952, together raising 4 beautiful children.

Slim also had a desire for running a projector so he got himself a part-time job during the evening at the local movie theatre in addition to working at the family grocery store. He enjoyed this so much he eventually bought into the movie business.

The grocery store, which he ran with his father Clarence, and brother Jim flourished and grew and in 1960 became a part of the Super Valu franchise. In 2006, after being in the business for 69 years Slim and his brother both retired and sold the Super Valu Store.

As he was always looking for a challenge, he got his pilots license and learned to ski at the age of 50. Upon retirement Slim and his wife Mary spent many winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona.

Slim was forever looking out for his family. One of his most satisfying accomplishments was being able to provide jobs to the community and to his family and he was always willing to help anyone out whenever he could.

Following a short illness Slim passed away quietly at Bulkey Valley District Hospital on November 17th, 2023, surrounded by his family.
