On July 19, 2017, long-timeSmithers resident Bryce Edward Holland passed away peacefully in Grand Forks, BC at the age of 91. Born in Saskatchewan in 1926, Bryce grew up in Victoria and started his teaching and administrative career in Surrey. In 1951, he married Merle, his wife of 65 years. In 1959, he moved his young
family north to the Bulkley Valley. From 1965 until his retirement in 1983, Bryce was the Principal of the Smithers Senior Secondary School. He also served on the boards of the Smithers Hospital and Bulkley Lodge and was a volunteer at the Smithers Legion. In 1998, Bryce and Merle moved to Grand Forks to be closer to family, but they always considered Smithers home. Merle passed away in 2016. Bryce is survived by his 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren
