Annie Hoogendoorn

November 11, 2006

Mrs. Annie Hoogendoorn

1922-2006

Annie was born August 20, 1922, in Leiderdorp, Holland. She was the oldest of three children born to Willem Demmendal and his wife Jantje, who owned a dairy farm. Annie had two younger brothers.

Annie attained a post-secondary certificate in maternity nursing and worked for a number of years in Den Haag before transferring home to Leiderdrop. She met her future husband, Jake Hoogendoorn, there. Annie and Jake were married in early 1952 and left for Canada later the same year.

Annie and Jake first settled in Richmond, B.C., where their first child, Matthew, was born. In 1956 they moved to the Bulkley Valley and within several months they bought a farm in Driftwood. The birth of their two daughters, Geraldine and Sarah Jane, completed their family. Annie and Jake lived on the farm in Driftwood for 40 years.

In 1997 Jake went to be with the Lord, and shortly thereafter Annie moved into Smithers.

By then, Annie was 75 years old and a proud grandmother of six. She enjoyed reading as well as sharing the beauty of the extensive and beautiful flower gardens in her yard with friends and family.

On November 11, 2006, Mom completed her earthly journey when she passed away peacefully at her home. We trust she is now with the Lord.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,

I am this dark world’s light.

Look unto me thy morn shall rise,

And all thy day be bright.

I looked to Jesus and I found

In Him my star, my sun

And in that light of life I’ll walk

Till travelling days are done.

We love you; and so miss you Mom.
