Angelo Donini

May 18, 1929 – February 4, 2016

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Angelo after a lengthy illness due to pneumomia. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Renata, sons George (Luella) and Silvio (Naoko), daughter Mary Rose (Robert), grandsons Andres (Sarah) and Garrett, granddaughter in-law, Cheryl (Marty), and great-granddaughter, Isabella, who could always bring a sparkle to his eye.

Born in Legnago, Italy in 1929, he immigrated to Canada in 1952 to work with the Canadian National Railway in Smithers and Moricetown. He studied architecture, making his own blueprints and built a number of houses in Smithers. After retiring from the railroad in 1988 he spent many hours woodworking on his lathe in his shop. In 2010, Renata and he moved to Maple Ridge to be close to family.

Angelo had a sharp wit and loved to laugh, many times with tears running down his face. He had a large heart and fiercely loved his family and friends. A great ballroom dancer, he also loved classical music, opera, playing chess, and political discussions.

Thank you to all the friends who provided support and companionship during Angelo and Renata’s time in Smithers. They had many fond memories of their years there. A private funeral was held in Maple Ridge attended by all his family at Angelo’s request.
