Agnes Mathews (Adomeit)
July 4, 1924 - April 21, 2016Agnes was born in Baden, Switzerland on July 4, 1924. In 1937 she immigrated to Smithers, BC with her family, along with her brothers, John and Louis Schibili. It was here that she met her first husband, George Adomeit. They were married in 1944 and together they raised seven children.
In 1971, George passed away and Agnes was a widow until she met Peter. The two were married in 1981 and moved to Granisle, BC in 1988 where they spent many of their years together. They eventually moved to Powell River, BC in 2007 to enjoy the beautiful weather.
Agnes was an original member of the Smithers Catholic Women’s League. She was an expert crib player and avid golfer, winning many tournaments in Smithers. Not too many people can boast about earning both a 29 hand and a hole-in-one.
Agnes was known for her outgoing and charming personality and developed many lifelong friendships , some which began as soon as she arrived in Smithers. Her wit and sense of humour were sure to make you smile.
Above all, Agnes was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, and was always a joy to be around. “Granny Ag’ will be forever remembered in our thoughts and hearts.
