In 10 days, Smithers RCMP respond to drunk driving, dangerous driving, and a man driven to kick in a glass door.

Man vs door

On Thursday, May 11, Smithers RCMP responded to a report of a male who attended Smithers Courthouse after hours of operation and kicked the main entrance door, shattering the glass. Video surveillance footage identified the suspect who was located and arrested for mischief. The 60-year-old man was released and will appear at a later date in Smithers Provincial Court.

Impaired arrest after suspicious visits

On Thursday, May 18, Smithers RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle driving up several driveways in the area of Hudson Bay Mountain Road. The vehicle occupant had also attempted to enter a residence. Police attended and located the vehicle in question. The driver exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The vehicle was impounded. The 59-year-old Smithers man is scheduled to appear in Smithers Provincial Court on Aug. 22.

Crash and dash

On Sunday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m., Smithers RCMP received a report of a hit and run at the Telkwa Bridge on Coalmine Road in Telkwa. A brown Ford Taurus waiting their turn to cross the bridge was sideswiped by a two-door pickup that was covered in mud. The pickup also had a headache rack. The collision caused damage to the driver’s side mirror and side.

Patrols for the suspect vehicle were negative. Occupants obtained photographs of the suspect vehicle. Anyone with information in this matter is asked to contact the Smithers RCMP at 250-847-3233 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
