A man remains missing after going rock climbing near New Hazelton last week.

New Hazelton RCMP were notified on April 17, that 30-year-old Spencer Oliver had gone rock climbing around 4 p.m. on April 16 and had not returned home.

He was reportedly headed to a rock-climbing spot near Hagwilget Bridge that goes over the Bulkley River, flowing into the Skeena River.

Members of his family went out looking for him and notified police.

When police attended the area, the family had found items they believe belong to Spencer.

Evidence at the scene suggests Spencer may have fallen into the river, the RCMP said.

Police along with Police Dog Service (PDS), local fire departments and BC Ambulance all attended as well.

Search and Rescue was immediately engaged, utilizing significant resources from Houston, Smithers, and Terrace.

Search efforts included boats, helicopters, and swift water teams.

So far, all efforts to locate Spencer have been unsuccessful.

He is described as a Caucasian male; 30 years old; 5’ 9 (175 cm); 157 lbs (71 kgs) with brown hair and brown eyes.
