Wildfire season has begun in the Bulkley Valley.

On April 21, a fire was discovered at the end of Chapman Road. It was about three hectares in size.

Nine firefighters from BC Wildfire Service responded to the fire with assistance from the Smithers Fire Department.

It is now considered under control, meaning it is not expected to spread any further because of suppression efforts.

The blaze is suspected to be human caused.

The BC Wildfire Service also helped the Telkwa Fire Department on April 20 near Dot Road.

They assisted in suppression efforts with an officer and an Initial Attack crew.

The BC Wildfire Service wants to remind the public that there is currently a prohibition on Category 2 and Category 3 open fires in the Bulkley Fire Zone and the Nadina Fire Zone.

This does not include campfires, which are limited to a half-metre high by a half-metre wide or smaller.

To report a wildfire or an open burning violation, call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cell phone.
